The Local Offer is part of the reforms that are happening as a result of the new Children and Families Act 2014 and the new Special Educational Needs (SEN) reforms.
The Local Offer contains information about education, health and social care services that are available in Reading for children, young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and their families. Further information about SEND reforms is available here.
The Short Breaks/SEN/D Information Service is a free service provided by Reading Borough Council for families with children and young people who have special needs aged 0- 25 years (inclusive) living in the Reading area. There are a number of ways to access this information:
- Via their website here.
- A 9am-5pm telephone service 0118 9373777 (opt 2)
- Visit them at the Civic Centre. The team is based just behind the reception area.
Reading's Local Offer will continually grow over time to ensure it provides a genuinely valuable resource for our children, young people and their families. Details on how to get involved and inform future Local Offer developments will be publicised soon.
The short film below gives further information about the Local Offer. It also covers how children and young people and their families can get involved in their local area to give their views and opinions on what services should be offered.
